Chemical disasters, Agent Orange, and the first genetically
modified plant cell are among just some of the dark milestones belonging to the
history of the biotech giant Monsanto highlighted in a new report released
Wednesday by consumer advocacy group Food & Water Watch (FWW).
The in-depth historical analysis Monsanto: A Corporate
Profile presents a corporation "steeped in heavy industrial chemical
production," who only recently began marketing itself through an
"environmentally friendly, feed-the-world image"—an image that is
contradictory to a century of toxic chemical production and a food supply
saturated with un-labeled GE crops, herbicides, and artificial growth hormones.
Monsanto, as FWW shows, now holds vast "undue influence
over lawmakers, regulators, and our food supply," and has caused great
devastation to farmers around the world through its global seed monopoly.
“Despite its various marketing incarnations over the years,
Monsanto is a chemical company that got its start selling saccharin to
Coca-Cola, then Agent Orange to the U.S. military, and, in recent years, seeds
genetically engineered to contain and withstand massive amounts of Monsanto
herbicides and pesticides,” said Ronnie Cummins, executive director of Organic
Consumers Association in response to the report. “Monsanto has become
synonymous with the corporatization and industrialization of our food supply.”
“Even though you won’t find the Monsanto brand on a food or
beverage container at your local grocery store, the company holds vast power
over our food supply,” said Rebecca Spector, West Coast Director for the Center
for Food Safety. “This power is largely responsible for something else we
cannot find on our grocery store shelves — labels on genetically engineered
food. Not only has Monsanto’s and other agribusinesses’ efforts prevented the
labeling of GE foods, but they spend millions to block grassroots efforts like
California’s Prop 37 in order to keep consumers in the
dark.”
California’s Prop 37
The report arrives after President Obama signed last week
what has been dubbed the "Monsanto Protection Act"—legislation
critics say amounts to "corporate welfare" for biotechnology
corporations like Monsanto that puts both farmers and the environment in
jeopardy.
The law will essentially "bar US federal courts from
being able to halt the sale or planting of genetically engineered (GE) crops
even if they failed to be approved by the government's own weak approval
process and no matter what the health or environmental consequences might
be," Greenpeace wrote last week.
"At the end of March, the American
public saw first hand the unjustifiable power that Monsanto holds over our
elected officials when an unprecedented budget rider, dubbed the ‘Monsanto
Protection Act,’ was tacked onto the spending bill to fund the federal
government,” Dave Murphy, founder and executive director of Food Democracy Now!
stated following the release of Food & Water Watches new report. “This is
an outrageous interference with our courts and separation of powers and we cannot
sit back and allow our elected officials to continue to take orders from
Monsanto at the expense of family farmers and consumers.”

Monsanto is surely the poster child for psychopathic
corporate hubris, the layered, endemic delusions that: (A) mankind can and
should subjugate Nature to our narrow, short-term interests, and (B) that
corporate predators are valid agents to determine what interventions in
ecosystems are prudent.
Every single illusion Monsanto has
to sell, from the dangerous fantasy that saturating the earth with poisons can
enhance agricultural productivity to the swindle that proprietary seeds can
feed the world, clearly benefits only the plutocrats running Monsanto - and yet
their wealth has effectively purchased the fealty of national and international
governance, from the judiciary clear though reguilatory capture of all
executive agencies.
For the enlightened, Monsanto is
the starkest example of what's wrong with the way cultures are organized: how
predatory corporate power inevitably collides with ecological reality.

Verily, Monsanto is one of Satan's footsoldiers and this
report from Food & Water Watch proves it... From Agent Orange to bovine
growth hormone to farmer suicides in India, Monsanto Corp. is up to its elbows
in evil and ecocide... See pages 9 & 10 for an eyeopening overview of
Monsanto's cancerous spread into all of the American Empire's major institutions,
including the Clinton and Obama administrations, who have both been gung-ho
about promoting this corporation's brand of poison.

And people like Robert Reich & John Nichols - two
esteemed members of the Apologencia (or "Professional Left", if you
prefer) - always manage to push for supporting the Democrats, despite the fact
that the Democrats passed the bill containing the "Monsanto
Protection" and TWO Democratic President's turned over the FDA to Michael
Taylor (Monsanto Executive / Lobbyist).
Ando Arike > JohannIvan • 12 hours ago
Reich and Nichols are corporate shills, likely on the
payroll of the CIA.
ribeekah > JohannIvan • 8 hours ago
Reich and Nichols are not panacea. They happen to have a
public platform to offer suggestions for solving systemic problems. You and I
know that the problem in the US of A is bigger than Reich and Nichols. It has
to do with the transnational corporations, the global
"corporatization" of power. Therefore, it will take conscious people
like you, who at least can hear or have been listening to Reich and Nichols, to
become outraged enough to do something about their powerlessness.

GMO foods are destroying the soil and the beneficial
bacteria that lives in those soils.
This article refers to studies
that show GMO foods play a role in the lessining effectiveness of Anti-biotic
drugs. They help to kill the number of benefical bacteria in the human gut
while allowing the number of less then beneficial bacteria to rise. This leads
to more diseases.

This system of psychosis has impacted us all...not only is
it psychitic...in addition it has created a population that has gone
insane...people like Reich.are part of the problem ...not the
solution...Monsanto has created an empire on lies..but that is not an isolated
case, there are many more..An independent elightened people are the only
recourse to this PR sales madness..

In other words, this evil empire has been doing evil for so
fucking long, we need historical reminders of the evil they have done, are
doing and will continue to do long after you feel indignant. That's right,
nothing is going to change and deep down you know it.

There was an article from NPR/Monsanto going around on FB
stating that the bill was not the "Monsanto Protection Act" and that
those who were against it were just fear mongers. Funny thing, the two comments
I made to the article were deleted.Talk about fear. I cannot believe how many
so-called "educated" people believe that there is anything good about
Monsanto and GMO's!!!

similar information, and my Obama-pologist friends were spreading the same BS.

There's something wrong with these people. These product and
their bullshit copyright garbage can demand that no one eats unless they get
paid and their roundup stomach popping food is an abomination.

Is there anymore evidence needed to declare that Monsanto is
the true enemy of all people everywhere.
ecogal • 8 hours ago
they didn't get their start with saccharine... they were
making PCBs long before that... starting in the 1930s or so... many a Superfund
site in their wake... what they did before that, probably made potions out of
mercury, who knows.

Now will someone please tell me what better place Obama
could possibly begin to inaugurate his new, crucially needed, thoroughly legal
and totally appropriate, even according to all the often widely varied polls,
desperately needed, if gradually and carefully implemented "expropriation
of the expropriators," beginning with the break up and/or nationalizations
of those corporate mega-monsters currently causing this once great nation and
the world as a whole the most serious and immediate dangers of the wholesale
death of the human species itself -- e.g. those companies which are, in
complete violation of all EPA regulations, continuing egregiously to violate
the clean air and Clean Water Acts. thus virtually guaranteeing that the full
panoply of environmental horrors predicted by scientists from every country of
the world for decades already must soon come to pass, taking with them hundreds
of billions, if not trillions, of innocent children, -- increasingly exposed to
lead poisoning, food additives, vitamin deficiencies, retro-viral and other
"superbugs." and various petro-derived and other chemicals well-known
to be serious carcinogens -- as well as many millions of the congenitally and
chronically infirm, whose immune systems can easily be sent into fatal
tailspins by the presence in very small quantities of new infectious agents
that most other, simply luckier persons would generally have only occasional
difficulties fighting off and eliminating from their bodies, next would come
the millions of elderly persons, who while not yet showing the most typical
outward signs of autoimmune dysfunction are likely to begin to do so any time
within the next few years, The come persons under great emotional physical
stress, who are struggling to stay alive merely from the enormous workload they
are currently placed under, in all capitalist countries, whether through the
direct conditions of their employment or through a rather warped sense of what
they need to accomplish to be loved and respected by others.
Clearly this list could be extend
to clear many other groups, among various subpopuations alsready trying their
hardest to cope with one or more common, and potentially fatal disease. By
finally putting some teeth into our currently merely "boiler plate"
environmental laws and by rescuing and rehabilitating these hundreds of
millions of persons from jobs that are now largely destined to kill them one way
or another, and generally quite soon at that, Obama could also begin to turn
around his current largest problem; that of being perceived increasingly as
nothing but a a man who, while he cetainly can give a fine speech but remains
nothing but a total "wuss, indeed a "betrayer of all his party's
programs and promises," when it comes time to actually implementing
anything along the lines he has repeatedly told us he plans to proceed. As
thousands and hundred of thousands of previous fatalities began to recede, he
would then have re-won the confidence of the overwhelming masses to take on
other corporations, which, while they may not be out there everyday destroying
our one and only socio/political environment merely for the short term
pecuniary gains of the the 1% of banking, insurance and real estate interests
who keep the other 99% in a merciless condition of debt servitude, while having
already implemented laws which prevent those who simply can no longer find jobs
in this land which would allow them not only to pay off the large principal on
their many loans, especially thier enormous mortgages and real estate payments,
but now alsothe only slightly smaller burden of student loan principal and
interest that has never been anywhere near so large as it is today. And as if
these loans were not nearly impossible to meet on their own, even should they
be capable of finding a job which compensates them at anywhere near the
relative rate which it remunerated their predecessors, these new "debt
slaves" are also being held accountable for much larger "adjustable
interest" interest payments on their home mortgages as well as
significantly higher, again nearly usurious, rates -- which latter are, btw,
perfectly legal under recent laws implemented by the allegedly "Too Big To
Fail" banks and their many allies in Real Estate, Insurance and Student
Loan intisement and profiteering which, with so many new levels and widely
varied forms of professional preparation now required to practice, simply can
only in those cases where the student is backed financially by a parent, can be
paid down at all, especially when, like most other new graduates they are not
able to enter, much less rapidly, into the field for which they have really
alone been trained, at an enormous cost to their own future financial situation
and those, mostly student loan sharks, to whom they are often indebted until
the day they die, -- assuming that their "chosen" profession even
still exists then. On top of all of these charges they have seen their real
wages disintigrate, especially when measured as the certainly should be in
"price-parity" units against workers incomes in other nations. the
have also seen their tax continue to ride, especially real estate and income
taxes, they have lost their once well-protected to declare bankruptcy, even
though any corporation may due so for the slightest of reasons, while also
being afforded all other rights previously preserved for living citizens, those
who once made up a democratic republic where only the people themselves and
their representatives could deliberated and vote, not merely choose which lobby
to send a token check to, and finally, although perhaps worst of all, they have
even lost the right to expatriate to another country when the level of tax
servitude, [or more realistically tax slavery] here become so onerous that they
are willing to try their luck starting over somewhere far away from the
constant taxation and continual waste of faux currency on imperialistic wars in
tiny and irrelevant -- except to the military-industrial-congressional complex
that is! -- lands which most Americans cannot even find on a globe no matter
how much time they are given to do so. Indeed we have come to the point where
the U.S. is one of only two countires which will not allow its citizens to
emigrate from what all should know to be little other than the greatest
"utopia of freedom" on earth. And the other country with that same
policy and justification for it? You guessed it; North Korea. And still more
Americans each month make the break for other lands. Indeed I was recently told
by a rather irate American emigration official that as many people left this
country in the last quarter of last year than in the entire previous year!
Fortunately for him, and him alone, only a tiny percentage of them also found
some way to expatriate their money as illicitly as they were required to expatriate
themselves. Ah America the Great! The land of national security unto totally
penury. Like many of you know doubt, I have finally determined how I myself can
finally leave this paradise of Bank-theives, Generals, private education and
ever incresaing taxes. I may even be able to get some small tad of my
hard-earned retirement money out of here as well. But alas, I've already gone
into far too many details already. So good luck to all of you have also grown
weary of paying 45% or more of your income to a protection racket which
repeatedly claims to bre "protecting you" from enemies we don't even
have, except on those rare occasions when Washington stirs up a hornets nest or
two!
