Million Into Genetically Modified Crops

In a decision outraging campaigners for food sovereignty and
agroecological approaches, the Gates Foundation has awarded a $10 million grant
to develop genetically modified (GM) crops for use in sub-Saharan Africa.

The grant is for the John Innes Centre in Norwich, which
hopes to engineer seeds for corn, wheat and rice that will fix nitrogen (take
nitrogen from the air) so that the crops would not need fertilizers. But GM Freeze, which campaigns against GM
food, crops and patents, says that "nitrogen fixing wheat and other
cereals have been promised by the GM industry for several decades" and
that other, non-GM methods are the solution. Pete Riley, campaign director GM
Freeze, adds that "GM is failing to deliver."

This approach sets up a highly profitable scenario for seed
makers, as farmers would be reliant upon these companies to continue buying
their seeds, and would not be able to save the patented, modified seeds.

Commenting on the Gates Foundation grant, Mariam Mayet of
the African Centre for Biosafety in South Africa said: "GM nitrogen fixing
crops are not the answer to improving the fertility of Africa's soils. African
farmers are the last people to be asked about such projects. This often results
in the wrong technologies being developed, which many farmers simply cannot
afford. We need methods that we can control aimed at building up resilient
soils that are both fertile and able to cope with extreme weather. We also want
our knowledge and skills to be respected and not to have inappropriate solutions
imposed on us by distant institutions, charitable bodies or governments."

this assumption that genetically modified seeds produce more. In India,
Monsanto came in with a claim of 1,500 kilograms of cotton per acre with their
genetically engineered cotton. The average yields are 400 kilograms. Our
studies show that. The government studies confirm this."

GMOs are all hype and do not deliver as promised (read up on
the history of this), and Monsanto's scheme would further impoverish third
world farmers as they would be totally dependent on purchasing their seeds from
Monsanto from year to year. It's a lose-lose situation both economically and
environmentally for the farmer. Gates has joined the ranks of the arrogant,
evil money-loving ogres on this planet who just love to lord it over everyone
else.

Bill Gates never met a living system he didn't view as a
machine. Although some in the forum find such references unworthy of respect,
others do not share their rigidity. Edgar Cayce, who performed thousands of
induced trance readings (these preserved at the A.R.E--Association for Research
and Enlightenment, in Virginia Beach) warned back in the l940's that mahy
Atlanteans would be reincarnating in America and would bring their genetic
knowledge along with them.
According to Cayce's material, the Atlanteans cracked the
genetic code and mixed species. Some of the images seen in mythology represent
the weird combinations they wrought. Cayce also explained that the powers of
that time, also consumed by dark motives, wished to genetically design a race
that would be labor intensive, but not bright enough to question its
"superiors," i.e. those authority figures demanding their labor.
When I look at Gates I see an Atlantean. Everything he
funds, for all the hype about his philanthropy is designed to uni-clone the
world's agriculture along with the fertile minds of young students. Whatever he
touchs turns to gold, but much of it is rendered lifeless in the process...
like Mr. Midas, himself.

Plato credited his account of the lost island of Atlantis,
west of Portugal, to Solon's 6th century BCE interview with Egyptian historian
Sais.
As of the mid-twenties, Edgar Cayce psychically discovered
details of a lost continent of Atlantis, occupying much of the north Atlantic
ocean. Cayce even predicted that Atlantis would resurface around 1968.
Meanwhile, in 1912, Alfred Wegener proposed the theory of
continental drift. Wegener had this much in common with Cayce: his ideas were
immediately ridiculed. But today Wegener is remembered as a great discoverer.
The floor of the Atlantic is youngest along the mid-Atlantic ridge, and gets
progressively older as it spreads out.
Our knowledge of continental drift and Atlantic geography
absolutely excludes the possibility of a lost island or continent of Atlantis.
All the large (non-volcanic) land masses on Earth have been around since before
they collided into the supercontinent of Pangaea 300 million years ago.
There were ways to test Wegener's incredible notion, which
eventually proved true of this planet. Most psychic assertions cannot be
rigorously examined. Rigor would deflate the positive atmosphere required for
the sensitive reception of psychic information, we are told. The problem with
psychic epistemology is...

Absolutely correct.
While Cayce's pronouncements might not be scientifically founded, they
are based on intuition, which often leaps way ahead of science. But we don't really need Cayce. Science itself is telling us that there are
genetic differences between those who aren't empathetic and those who are. Those who gravitate towards wealth and power
(the greedy and non empathetic) are superb at preserving themselves and their
offspring, but they are a disaster as movers and shakers as far as the human
species is concerned. They have to go,
if humanity is to survive. It's probably
already too late. The species could
afford these "mutations" when the population was fairly low, but now
the earth itself cries out against them.

We really seem to have gone down an evolutionary
cul-de-sac. It makes you wonder about
what we call 'intelligence'. We've built
it into all that software that Bill Gates profits from... so it probably is an
extreme form of stupidity. It certainly
has nothing to do with wisdom.

The genetic argument is both tricky and presents a morally
slippery slope. Japanese and Chinese people tend to be slimmer than Americans;
but when they move to the Homeland Security state and start eating fatty foods,
their body types alter. In fact, so do their genes.
As another bit of anecdotal data, in the rare instance of
psychostenia (spelling?), a/k/a the multiple personality disorder, it's been
documented that ONE personality (and keep in mind, they all "reside"
in the same body) can show signs of asthma, and these utterly disappear when
another "personality" takes over.
Humanity is at a point in its evolution where it's so locked
into the physical, that physical explanations--which is to say tangible things
that can be measured--are seen as the key causative agencies. If, on the other
hand, mind molds matter, then conditions of the flesh can and do alter.
The narrow-minded geniuises who were caught in a race to map
the DNA molecule thought specific cellular functions could be tied to specific
portions of the molecule. It never dawned on them that DNA is a holistic
apparatus, and that whatever happens to any part of it, impacts the whole.

I got the idea from a TV program on serial killers. They
have been doing extensive research on these individuals, and have found that
they have an extra gene which causes a lack of empathy. They have found this
condition in many CEOs and others who seek power and wealth.
You may be right--DNA may be a holistic apparatus. But I dare you to try to grow a conscience on
one of the monsters and see how you do.
In a well balance, matriarchal society these men may be contained and
even useful, but we are not living in that society. And does it really matter? Evil, sick, or genetically mutated, these men
have ruled over us for thousands of years and have now reached the end because
the earth is not large enough for their greed and selfishness. As it stands, we are a failed species.
